Girouxville planning family fun day to aid youth to visit Pope

Plans for a community family fun day on March 9 in Girouxville have been initiated.
This was a main focus of discussion at the Societe Dev. Culturel de Girouxville annual meeting Jan. 22 at the Girouxville Community Centre.
During the election of officers, Carmen Ewing and Billy Bremner elected as co-chairs, along with secretary Cherie Daubert and treasurer Verna McAleer.
A family fun day at the community hall to coincide with the youth curling bonspiel that weekend is the first major project on the schedule.
“We’ll work with the curling club to organize curling time for family fun day,” said Ewing, noting that a planning meeting is scheduled for this week.
The society is excited about planning more community activities and raise funds for special local projects.
“We were approached by parents of World Youth Day participants,” said Ewing.
Seven local youth are raising funds for their trip to Toronto for a large rally with Pope John Paul.
Net proceeds of the upcoming family day will be equally designated for the youth and the local society, said Ewing.
Further ahead, plans will also be underway for events to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Notre Dame de Lourdes Parish next year.
“One of the main focuses of the society is to plan and host more activities in our community,” said Ewing.
